Health & Safety
This tour is a well-paced active tour that includes walking on inclined or uneven pavements in high altitudes.
We're sorry, guests in wheelchairs are not encouraged to join this tour due to lack of wheelchair accessibility in hotels and sites, including Machu Picchu.
Travelers can experience altitude sickness in destinations higher than 8,000ft above sea level. Common symptoms include headache, nausea, shortness of breath, fatigue, and lack of appetite. For most travelers, it is a manageable condition through medication, herbal remedies, and breathing exercises. We have designed our tour to start at a lower altitude and gradually progress to higher altitude areas, so it allows the body time to slowly accumulate. All of our buses and hotels are equipped with oxygen tanks, medical professionals are also accessible if needed.
Guests with preexisting medical conditions such as heart or lung disease should consult with your doctor before traveling.
We strongly encourage you to visit the CDC website and check with your health care provider for a list of recommended and required shots when traveling to Peru and other South American countries.
Zika virus is present in Peru. Please practice enhanced precautions when traveling. We do not recommend women who are pregnant to travel to Peru. For more information, visit the CDC or CA Department of Public Health websites.
New 2019 regulations for Huayna Pichu: Only 400 visitors per day are allowed to hike Huayna Picchu, therefore arrangements should be made in advance. Please notify us at the time of booking if you are interested in this option. Nonrefundable $20/person due at time of booking. $70/person for tickets purchased within three months of tour start.
