Cable Car For City Views & Walking Tour

After a delicious breakfast, you'll meet your guide for a tour around this historic city.

TelefériQo (cable car):
Ride one of the highest aerial lifts in the world. Take the cable car from the edge of the city center up the east side of Pichincha Volcano to Cruz Loma lookout. 

Virgin of El Panecillo:
Standing 135 feet high (base included), it is one of the highest statues in South America (even taller than the Christ the Redeemer statue in the Brazil).

San Francisco Church: Established in 1536 by Franciscan monks, this magnificent architectural masterpiece features a museum in its convent with art from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.

La Compañía de Jesus Church: Jesuit architects began work on the Iglesia de la Compañía de Jesús in 1605. Today, it is considered one of the finest examples of Spanish Baroque architecture in South America.

Carondelet Palace: Known as the Palace of the Government, the building is believed to be to be over 300 years old. It currently serves as the seat of Ecuador's presidency.

Begin today at Punta Vicente Roca on Isabela Island.

Punta Vicente Roca (Isabela Island): 
This coastal exploration is done aboard dinghies because there is no disembarking site at this location. Naturalist guides will explain the dramatic geology of the area that are made up of lava flows and tuff stone layers.  

Punta Espinoza (Fernandina Island):  
This island is the youngest and most pristine island of the archipelago.  Here you will discover an amazing interplay between barren terrain and abundant wildlife. Highlights include: hawks, penguins, flightless cormorants and astounding views of surrounding volcanic landscapes.

Urbina Bay & Tagus Cove (Isabela Island)

Start your day with a hearty breakfast before going off to explore Isabela Island. After lunch, meet with your Naturalist Guide for a tour of northwest side of Isabela Island.

Urbina Bay:
We disembark at Urbina Bay, on the western side of Isabela Island, the result of the tectonic uplift of the ocean floor. As a result, we will see plenty of corals, shells and colorful Galapagos land iguanas and ocassionally will be able to spot giant tortoises. While sailing accross the Bolivar Channel, we will have a high change of spotting several species of whales.

Tagus Cove:
In the afternoon enjoy the secluded Tagus Cove on the northwest of Isabela, an anchorage spot once served as a pit stop for pirates and whalers for several centuries. Upon disembarking, take uphill hike to the back of Darwin Crater which consists of salt water.  Those feeling adventurous can choose snorkel or ride kayaks along the dramatic coastal landscape.

Stroll along red-colored beach

Rabida Island:  
Disembark in the morning at Rabida Island's red-colored beach. A stroll along the beach allows us to observe marine iguanas, mockingbirds, yellow warblers and several species of Darwin's finches. This is a great place to snorkel from the beach. Non-snorkelers are invited for glass-bottom boat exploration of life underneath the waves.  

Cerro Dragon (Santa Cruz Island):  
The north shore of Santa Cruz hosts the fascinating landscapes of Cerro Dragon (Dragon Hill). The walk here involves circling a brackish-water lagoon often frequented by lagoon birds. Further inland, the trail offers a beautiful view of the bay and the western islands of the archipelago as well as the chance to observe land iguanas.

Charles Darwin Research Station

Puerto Ayora & Charles Darwin Research Station: 
This morning visit the Charles Darwin Research Station, with its giant tortoise pens and an impressive giant prickly-pear cactus forest.  These are the Galapagos' headquarters for scientific research and conservation. The Station also functions as administration offices for the Galapagos National Park. 

Highlands:
After lunch, head up into the highlands of Santa Cruz island aboard a private bus, a great place to look for the emblematic finches that inspired Darwin. Endemic scalesia trees also dominte this area. The highlands are a great place for exploring the exuberant vegetation that is home to giant tortoises that roam about freely in the wild.

Visit the historic Post Office Barrel

Post Office Bay:  
After breakfast disembark at Post Office Bay to visit the historic "Post Office Barrel" that has functioned as post office in the archipelago for over two centuries. Views from La Loberia and the Baroness Viewpoint are rewarding and enjoy great kayaking and swimming from the beach.

Champion Islet & Cormorant Point:  
Before disembarking at Cormorant Point, enjoy snorkeling or riding glass-bottom boat that travels along the coast of an extinct cone called Champion Islet.  In the afternoon visit Cormorant Point which has an olivine-crystal beach and brackish water lagoon where bird species like American flamingos can be observed.  A brief walk to the other side of the island, enjoy the white-sand beach where sea turtles come out at night to nest.

This tour is a well-paced active tour that includes walking on inclined or uneven surfaces. We're sorry, but guests under 6 years old or in wheelchairs are not encouraged to join this tour due to lack of accessibility in hotels and many sites.
Quito is located 9,350ft above sea level. Travelers may experience altitude sickness in destinations higher than 8,000ft above sea level. Common symptoms include headache, nausea, shortness of breath, fatigue, and lack of appetite. For most travelers, it is a manageable condition through medication, herbal remedies, and breathing exercises. Please consult your personal health care provider before travel.
