Japan is Now Open!

Exciting news! After two years, Japan is finally opening its borders for travelers!
Information is changing quickly, so we will share updates as more specifics become available:

Visa requirements to be lifted
Update 9/22/22: Prime Minister Kishida announced that visas will no longer be required for most countries, effective on or after Oct 11, 2022. Visitors entering before that date will still need an ERFS certificate and visa application.
All visitors to Japan will be required review the latest requirements on Visit Japan Web before entering. A "Fast Track" pre-application is available on the Visit Japan Web site (to be completed no later than 6 hours before entry).
When can we go?
Effective Oct 11, 2022, the daily visitor cap will be removed. For arrivals prior to Oct 11, the daily number of visitors will be capped at 50,000 travelers.
A pre-approved visa is required for some.
If you are arriving in Japan before Oct 11, you must obtain an ERFS code from us and apply for a visa. We will provide the ERFS code about 45-60 days before our tour.

For the visa application, we can help you locate your nearest Japan consulate. US and Canadian passport holders may also use the new eVisa website for convenient application.

What will local travel conditions look like?
As with our pre-covid tours, we will continue to include a great balance of guided exploration and free time in our itineraries. To meet local guidelines, masking and regular disinfection required throughout the trip. If you would like to extend your stay before or after your tour, you are welcome to do so.
Are travelers from all countries allowed?
For now, tours will only be accepted from the "blue" list of countries and regions representing the lowest risk of infections, which includes the United States and Canada. Vaccinated individuals from blue list countries will no longer be required to test before flying to Japan and are exempt from arrival testing and quarantines.
